Knowledge-Based Generalized Side-Lobe Canceller for Ionospheric Clutter Suppression in HFSWR
نویسندگان
چکیده
High frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) has been successfully developed for early warning and remote sensing. However, the ionospheric clutter is a difficult challenge that can make HFSWR system inefficient. The Generalized Side-lobe Canceller (GSC) has been proved to be an effective algorithm for clutter suppression in theory, but it suffers from the performance degradation for some non-ideal conditions in practice. The most intolerable shortcoming is the signal to noise ratio (SNR) loss caused by the residual signal in the secondary data. In this paper, a knowledge-based GSC (KB-GSC) method has been proposed via an adaptive single notch filter design to reject the residual signal for reducing the SNR loss. The feasibility and availability has been demonstrated by measured data.

Modification of Sidelobe Canceller System In Planar Arrays (RESEARCH NOTE)
A Side Lobe Canceller (SLC) structure is a conventional partially adaptive technique which is used in large adaptive array radars. If a desired signal has long time duration in comparison with the SLC adaptation time, signal components may be cancelled. So, this paper presents a modified SLC which eliminates desired signal cancellation problems and allows using an unconstrained adaptive algorit...
متن کاملThe role of ionospheric clutter in mid-latitude and arctic regions for assessment of HFSWR surveillance
The ionosphere is the region of the earth’s atmosphere in which gases are ionized by radiation such as ultraviolet light from the sun and cosmic rays from outer space. The unwanted radar echoes from the ionosphere are collectively called ionospheric clutter. This paper studies the arctic and mid-latitude ionospheric environment using ionosonde data and assesses High-Frequency Surface-Wave Radar...
متن کاملSpread Doppler Clutter Mitigation for Oth Radar by Physics- Assisted Adaptive Processing
The detection performance of skywave HF over-the-horizon radars is fundamentally limited by ionospheric motion which causes spreading of surface clutter returns in Doppler space. This paper exploits a model for HF propagation through ionospheric irregularities based on a thin phase screen formulation which is used to derive the Doppler spread and the spatio-temporal dependence in the received f...

Maritime surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is a present military and civilian challenge. The High Frequency Surface Wave Radar, as its coverage range is not limited by the radio horizon, is well-suited to fulfil this task. HFSWRs are based on the ability of HF waves (3 MHz to 30 MHz) to propagate along the earth curvature: it is possible to detect targets up to few hundred kilom...
متن کاملDoppler Information Extraction of Segment Signal Using S-mvdr Method in Hfswr
This paper proposes a novel spectrum estimation algorithm in order to extract the Doppler information of segment echo data of high frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) operating at sweep frequency mode. Working in this mode, the HFSWR can avoid interferences related to radar frequency, such as ionospheric clutter, sea clutter, and cochannel interference. However, the echo signals operating at t...
